North Coast Spearfishing Report

Hey Guys,

Well I woke up just after 4 bells this morning and was greeted by pelting rain and gusting winds. My heart sank as the conditions were looking very good last night.

But after a few calls to some mates (who dont mind being woke up at 4:30) I found out that durban was still with no rain. So I took the gap hoping that the conditions would mellow.

The sea was not as messed up as I thought and we got in. The vis was not too bad but the bad light made it gloomy. The current was humming south - north and this made for hard diving. I did manage to get a small 8kg cuta tho ... so all was not lost.

The swell did start to push and I would not be surprised to see it pick up through the day. Easterlies are predicted so we will have to hold on and see what tomorrow brings.

Morne ends his drought

Morne has not been the luckiest of chaps of late. But last week ended all that when he 'came right' with 4 quality snoek off Christmas Bay.

He was so happy even his dog 'Cuta' was smiling.

Spearfishing Vis Report

Hey guys,

Well the west is blowing and the vis already looks like it is cleaning up. The only worry is rain, as the forecast is for quiet a bit of rain. The swell has not picked up yet and we will have to see if some pushes through tomorrow. However I dont think it will be substantial. ..... bummer for the surfers.

Also just to let you know you can post comments on each post. So if you have been for a dive that day and would like to up date my report go for it ... share the love. It will also be good to hear what fish are coming out.

Cheers 4 now

Spearo Report

Hey guys,

The east was up early this morning, but the dive still looked ok. I think every one is just a little tired, with all the diving that we have had. If this was any other time of the year there would be a shoal of divers in the water.

Saturday was mif with the wind, but yesterday was brilliant conditions. I got a nice 10 kg cuta, saw some others but they were fairly skittish. I didn't hear of any major fish coming out, other than the odd snoek and cuta.

The wind this week looks favourable for Wednesday and Thursday dives. I will keep my eye on the ball.

Till then.

North Coast Spearfishing Report

Hey guys,

Sorry I have not been on the ball early this morning. I just had to sleep in, as the last week has been superb conditions for diving. That means 3.30 wake up calls a couple hours of diving and lugging fish back along the beach and then off to a full days work. So a good rest was welcome.

However the sea looks ok after the north east yesterday, and from experience this is often when the cuta are on. The last few days have seen a couple of cuta, but it has been the snoek that have been thick. One guy even got 9 good size snoek on Wednesday.

It looks like the east is going to pump again today, with a small south west on Saturday. So we should be in the mix by Sunday again.

Cheers foe now,

Spearfishing Report

Well its 4.20am and it is pitch black. We might have to start coming
down later next week. The sea is looking great there is a light south
blowing and the swell seems small. The guys climbed into the snoek
yesterday, so we hope that they are still around. Cheers Coatesman

Good Spearfishing weekend for some!

The Reports of some good water and fish are starting to filter through the grape vine.

Yesterday arvo Paul Rados shot a nice GT of 18kg and Ross got a Wahoo of 15kg, not bad for 4ths!! This morn the water was still good but it was generally quiet, I managed to get a snoek, in the shallows but it was quiet otherwise.

It looks like some good weather up ahead so we should be in for a good diving week.

Whats the sea doing.

Well its dead calm this morning and the sea is fairly flat. Its still
dark so cant tell what the vis is like. I did dive last night and it
was ok. Thermoline at 7m but you could still make out the reef at 18m
. . Just. I lost a good cuta, it pulled off the spear while in my
hands. Bummer. Any way jumping in now, tell you more later. Coatesman

So I did not go down and dive ..... big mistake!! the sea is calm now and the vis looks ok. There arnt any waves though but a dive would have been good.

Hey guys,

Sorry this one is so late, Got in this morning while it was still dark. The vis was great, top to bottom with a light south current. It was very quiet tho .. that except Lloyd's 15.1kg cuta that swam right up to him on the surface. Damn dumb cuta like that deserve to get shot!!

The surf is also looking good.

Surf and spearfishing report

Morning all, its 4.30 and its only starting to get light. The run is
coming up later now days and there will be no 4 bell dives for a few
months. The sea is calm this morning after the south west came through
last nite. I am hoping that the current has turned and fish mainly
cuta will come back on. I am not sure how good the vis is but I will
get in anyway and post an up date later. On the surfing side . . Stay
in bed there is no swell! Cheers Coatesman

Surf and freediving report

After a great weekends diving, the sea is still diveable. The east
yesterday has pushed some swell in but nothing serious. There are some
freaky peaks for those desperate for a surf. There is a light offshore
wind grooming the waves a little. A west is supposed come through
later tonight. See ya Chris

Spearfishing and surf report.

Sorry 4 the late report. I was too busy diving! :-) I got in late
yesterday arvo at Tiffs and the water was good. But other than a shoal
of snoek it was very quiet. I had got to the backline on my way in and
thought I would head back out 4 one last look. I went to my bomb
snoek spot in 10m, and after my second dive saw a snoek cruising
below. Did the normal dive and chase and landed a long shot in the
fish. I realised it was a good size when it took me to my float. It
Was 9.6kg a new club record.today the water is still good with only
one cuta coming out that I know of. It might have something to do with
the cold water on the bottom. Cheers 4 now Coatesman

Surf And Spearfishing Report

Hi All.

A bit of a late start this morning, I am feeling a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Not sure what it is I must be allergic to work!

Anyway the east is gently pushing, and the water does not look too bad. It might even be diveable tomorrow. There is very little swell and no real hope of any surf.

On the weather front there are no major south winds forecast until Tuesday ..... bummer.

See ya Chris

What Spearfishing went down today.

Hey guys ,

I did not dive today as I had to get back to work ...... bummer!

Got some feed back from the guys and they said that the water was very good just that the fish were quiet. Morne had a shot at a snoek, but I dont think much else was seen.

The East is now pushing and is set to push for the next 2 days. The water has already started to turn green in the east and I don't think there is going to be much diving until the next west.

Cheers 4 Now

Surf and dive report

It is a dive morning! The vis is great and the swell has dropped off
alot. The east has started to push already messing up any chance of a
wave. Cheers Coatesman

Surf and Dive Report

Pearler morning and the surf is cooking. Dont know what the vis is like tho.

Whats going on!

Well I got in at the stairs, and the vis was not great. I managed to get a small cuta on the first dive .. with one seriously lucky shot in the gloom.

The current was dead this morn but by the time we left the south current had started to push.

Maybe tomorrow morning.

Surf and dive report

Morning all, well the west is still with us. But it is light with the
sea moving strong south 2 north. There is not much swell and although
it is had to tell but it looks like the tip is ok. I will be grabbing
my spearfishing lit and taking a drive. Cheers 4 now Coatesman

Surf and dive report

The west is pumping and its raining. What blows my mind is that the
Vaalies are still doing the 'I can like to go to the beach' thing!
Back to whats really going on, there is a wind chop not to big and the
vis seems to be ok. It is hard to tell how good it is but I recon it
will be diveable 2moro. Cheers Coatesman

Spearfishing Report

Well the west is here, and all ready the sea is looking better. The
swell has dropped and will probably turn as the west picks up later
2day. The vis has improved to a milky green. Diveable if you are
desperate! All is looking good 4 the next few days. Cheers Coatesman

Beast from the east

Like yesterday we are greeted by the north east. The vis and surf is
hammered! The west will only come 2moro, so it will be monday before
any spearfishing goes down. Cheers Coatesman

Friday, January 5, 2007

Surf and dive report

Well the east is already up. So I guess that cancels any hope of a
surf. The swell is also small and from the east. The vis is not
looking good here in Ballito, probably 4m he you are lucky. Cheers 4
